Working groups
Photonics France has launched several working groups to collaborate with its members on joint initiatives to support the photonics industry.
Regulatory Working Group
Members of Photonics France often encounter difficulties in obtaining export licences for goods with both civilian and military applications. Photonic technologies are evolving rapidly, and it is difficult for both regulators and manufacturers themselves to assess the potential military use of products intended for export.
The working group provides training and support to our members on issues relating to dual-use goods and extraterritorial laws.
Our partners:
- The Dual-Use Goods Service (SBDU).
- The Strategic Information and Economic Security Service (SISSE).
PIC (Photonics Integrated Circuits) Working Group
Photonics integrated circuits (PICs) are gaining ground. In a photonic chip, photons pass through optical components such as waveguides (equivalent to a resistor or an electrical wire), lasers (equivalent to transistors), polarisers and phase shifters.
The working group proposes mapping the PIC sector’s stakeholders in order to clarify the value chain (from design to industrialisation) in France and to bring these stakeholders together to strengthen the French sector.
Software Working Group
Following a survey conducted among Photonics France members in 2025 on the photonics ecosystem’s knowledge and expectations regarding software, the added value of software in general for business development was demonstrated, as well as the specific role of software within the photonics sector.
The working group discusses the importance and added value for companies of designing their product strategy by considering the software aspect at an early stage and thus integrating it as early as possible.
